Hey guys,
My hair anniversary was yesterday, I am now one year natural, and I was thinking of all the things that I could have done differently this first year and I realized that people are going natural everyday. I wanted to make this post for all of those who are thinking of big chopping on the things I wish I knew before I had sat down in my hairdresser's chair last year.
1. It's defiantly an Adjustment
I obviously knew that I would look different after I BC, but I wasn't expecting it to take so long to get used to my new hair do. It is defiantly an adjustment getting used to the knew look and style of your hair.
2. You can only Wear Short Hair Down
I always saw these really gorgeous hairstyles online of people styling their twa's so perfectly and effortlessly, which made me really excited to chop my hair and start doing the same. Until I realized that that was all you could do with your twa. You better like your hair short and out because that is all you can do with it until you grow it out.
3. You Still Have to Take Care of It
I thought that with short hair, it would be less work to take care of my new hair. I was wrong on so many levels! You still have to deep condition, de-tangle, oil treatments, and style. Shorter hair is actually more work than longer in my opinion, simply because you can't just put it up on a bad day. So yes, you still have to do a little bit of work.
4. It Can Be Liberating
Watching a lot of big chop videos, I have noticed that most girls don't usually like their cut right after. I found that when I cut my hair, it was so freeing. I actually felt like this weight come off my shoulders. Now it was still an adjustment, but I didn't feel like I was like freaking out after I got my hair cut or crying when my hair touched the ground. I felt really good after my cut and depending on the situation, a big chop can be liberating.
5. Its Just Hair
After my BC, I was really overwhelmed by styling and getting my hair to be perfect. I wish someone had told me that it was just hair.
Hair is meant to be an accessory and you have to experiment with it to figure out what works for you.
So don't freak out if sometimes you don't get it exactly right, focus on health.
