Hello Planner Lovers,
For the third installment of Plan With Me Sunday I wanted to give a couple planner newbie tips that I have learned. Now don't get me wrong, I am a beginner as well. I started decorating my planner late April, so I am still learning things about myself as a planner, but I thought this post would still be beneficial for those who are new to the planner world and are a little overwhelmed and don't know how to get started.
1. Picking a Planner
When I first found the planner world, it took me the longest to pick a planner that I thought would work for me and last. There are so many sizes and binding styles and layouts. There are endless possibilities. First you need to figure what are you planning? If you want an on the go planner you might want to get a smaller personal sized planner. If you want a strictly school/ work planner than maybe a coil planner so its flexible and light. If you want a life planner that fits everything maybe a ring bound or discbound is better so you can customize it. Do your research and really take the time to find a planner that you think is going to work for what you want to plan. But remember that you don't have to break the bank to find one that suits you.
2. Beginning Supplies
When I first decided that I wanted to decorate my planner, I felt like I had to go out and buy a ton of washi tape, all the stickers and now I don't really use washi tape and I don't really like decorative stickers in my layout. Some people don't even like to decorate their planner. When starting out instead of breaking the bank and purchasing a ton of everything, start off small so you can experiment and find what you like. Once you've done that and you realize that you use functional stickers for everything go buy functional stickers. Or you like journal cards buy journal cards. Find what you enjoy first then you can purchase a ton of that instead of wasting money on what you don't use.
3. Finding your Planner Groove
Now this is the most important thing to do when planning. Finding your planning groove is basically finding the way of planning that works for you. Like I said earlier, I love functional stickers. Maybe you find that you like stamping better than stickers. Or color coding works best for you. To find your planner groove, find inspiration through a blogger/youtuber or maybe an instagramer. Experiment with different planning techniques and don't worry if you mess up. Remember, in the end planning is unique and individual. The whole point is to make it work for you.
Well that's it! Let me know in the comments some of your Planner Newbie tips. Also, what is your planner groove right now? I am loving functional stickers and sticky notes, but I also want to try stamps and the Michaels $1 sticker books. Let me know in the comments your groove and some planner techniques you want to try. Have a wonderful day.
