Ingredients
1 cup of butter, softened (if unsalted add 1/2 tsp. of salted)
2 tbs of vanilla extract
2 cups of self purpose flour
1 large egg
1 1/2 cup of sugar, plus extra for sprinkling
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Beat the butter and sugar for 3-5 minutes, until smooth. Be careful not to overbeat or the two ingredients will churn and separate. Add and mix in the vanilla, egg, and salt if needed. Finally beat in the flour. After well blended, color cookies if wanted. I dyed mine read and blue. Form cookies in desired shape, I made my into stars by using a cookie cutter. If you want them to be regular round cookies, form the dough into balls and flatten into desired thickness. Note that these cookies do not rise, but they do slightly spread. Finally bake for 8-12 minutes (depending on thickness) and let cool before removing from tray.

That's it. Too simple right :) I love this recipe and have been using it for years. Do you have a recipe that is tried and true? Let me know down below. I have been looking for a way to spice this recipe up though. Let me know your ideas below!
